Yesterday I had a great time at the ECCE HOMO exhibition at the National Gallery in Prague, which was extended until 20.1. 2013! It is the largest retrospective exhibition of the Czech artist Theodor Pistek, a famous film costume designer, painter, artist, and decoration maker, Oscar winner and winner of the Czech Lion award for long-term artistic contribution to film.
He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, and became a film artist shortly after finishing his studies. He collaborated with director František Vláčil on the Valley of the Bees and Markéta Lazarová films. He later worked intensively with artists such as Miloš Forman. He received the Oscar Academy Award for best costumes in the film Amadeus and gained the French César Award and another Oscar nomination for the costumes in the film Valmont. He collaborated on more than 100 films and is also the creator of the Prague Castle Guard Uniforms.
If you are in Prague, you should definitely visit his exhibition at the National Gallery. If you are up for a good coffee, Nova Synteza in the gallery is a great place to visit. A sort of a coffee lab with test tubes and innovate retro design, where lamps and chairs are put together with passion and style. You will find a carpet in the middle of the room, don’t hesitate to feel like in your living room. Nova Synteza is simply an extended art space of the National Gallery, where also good live music gigs take place.
